Guitar Haus Becomes an Authorized Collings Guitars Dealer

Bill Collings’ journey into guitar making didn’t begin in a large workshop, it started on a kitchen table in Houston, Texas in the mid-1970s. Armed with only a few hand tools and a background shaped by engineering curiosity, he began building instruments while working at a machine shop. Within a short time, his guitars found their way into the hands of local players, including Lyle Lovett, setting the foundation for what would become one of the most respected names in modern lutherie.

After an early period in Houston, Collings relocated to Austin, where his reputation for precision and tonal excellence quickly spread. A major turning point came in 1989, when renowned vintage instrument authority George Gruhn commissioned a run of custom guitars, bringing national attention to the young builder. From there, Collings grew steadily, eventually attracting artists such as Pete Townshend, Joni Mitchell, and Brian May, while continuing to refine a philosophy rooted in uncompromising quality and consistency.

Over time, the company expanded beyond acoustic guitars into mandolins, electric guitars, and other instruments, all built with the same meticulous approach. Even as production evolved and modern technology was introduced, the core principle never changed: every instrument should meet an extraordinary standard of craftsmanship and tone. Today, the Collings team continues to carry that vision forward from their Austin workshop.

A Milestone for Guitar Haus

Since opening our doors, bringing Collings Guitars to Guitar Haus has been a goal we’ve worked toward with patience and intention. It’s a process that took over two years—one built on alignment, trust, and a shared commitment to quality.

That’s why this moment carries special meaning for us.

Our very first Collings guitar arrived on Stan’s birthday, a detail that feels more than coincidental, and one we won’t soon forget.

Now in the Shop

We’re excited to welcome our first three Collings instruments:

  • Collings 001 Sunburst
  • Collings OM2H Adirondack
  • Collings OM1 AJL Adirondack

Each one reflects the clarity, balance, and responsiveness that players have come to expect from Collings, along with the precision and consistency that define their work.

More instruments are already on the way, and we’re looking forward to continuing to grow this relationship.
