Guitar Haus is a music-focused business located in Mississauga, Ontario, offering musical instruments, related services and private music instruction. We are seeking an experienced and qualified Music Teacher to provide professional individual and small-group music instruction to students of different ages and skill levels.

The successful candidate will primarily provide guitar and piano instruction and will help students develop strong instrumental technique, musical knowledge, confidence and performance skills.

Position Summary

The Music Teacher will provide structured private and small-group lessons to beginner, intermediate and advanced students.

The successful candidate will assess each student's abilities and learning objectives, prepare individualized lesson plans, teach instrumental technique and music theory, monitor progress and prepare students for performances and other musical-development opportunities.

The position is primarily focused on acoustic, classical,fretless,fingerstyle,slide,electric/lead guitar,Drums,ukulele,piano,cajon  instruction on any music style

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide individual and small-group music lessons to students of different ages and skill levels.
  • Teach acoustic, classical,fretless,fingerstyle,slide,electric/lead guitar,Drums,ukulele,piano,cajon  instruction on any music style
  • Teach instrumental technique, posture, fingering, rhythm, articulation and musical interpretation.
  • Teach music theory, ear training, sight reading and rhythm.
  • Assess students' musical abilities, previous experience and learning objectives.
  • Develop structured and individualized lesson plans based on each student's age, skill level, musical interests and goals.
  • Select appropriate repertoire, exercises and instructional materials.
  • Demonstrate proper instrumental techniques and performance methods.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students and, where appropriate, communicate progress to parents or guardians.
  • Prepare students for recitals, auditions, performances and other musical-development opportunities.
  • Conduct rehearsals and assist with student ensembles when required.
  • Maintain lesson schedules, instructional records and student progress information.
  • Develop and improve music instructional materials, lesson programs and curriculum.
  • Maintain a professional, respectful and supportive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with other instructors and staff when required.
  • Perform other duties directly related to music instruction and student development.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education or a related field, or equivalent professional education and experience.

Equivalent combinations of formal musical training and substantial professional teaching experience may be considered.

Canadian work experience is not required.

Experience

Minimum 5 years of professional music-teaching experience.

Experience should include teaching students at different ages and skill levels.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Candidates should have:

  • Professional proficiency in guitar.
  • Professional ability to provide piano instruction.
  • Strong knowledge of music theory.
  • Strong knowledge of instrumental technique and music pedagogy.
  • Experience providing private or studio music lessons.
  • Experience teaching beginner, intermediate and advanced students.
  • Ability to assess student abilities and learning needs.
  • Ability to develop individualized lesson plans.
  • Ability to explain musical concepts clearly and effectively.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Strong sound discrimination and musical listening skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional music-instruction environment.

Additional Assets

The following are considered assets but are not mandatory:

  • Experience preparing students for recitals, auditions or performances.
  • Experience directing or rehearsing student ensembles.
  • Experience teaching additional musical instruments.
  • Experience teaching a variety of musical styles.

Musical Instruments

The position primarily involves instruction in:

Acoustic, Classical, Fretless, Fingerstyle, Slide, Electric/lead guitar, Drums, Ukulele, Piano, cajon instruction on different.

Musical Styles

Instruction may include styles such as:

  • Classical
  • Popular music
  • Rock
  • Blues
  • Metal
  • Folk
  • Adult contemporary/modern music

Experience with jazz or other musical genres is considered an asset.

Work Setting

Employment Conditions

Wage: $40.00 per hour

Hours: 30 hours per week

Employment status: Permanent, full-time

The regular schedule will generally fall within Guitar Haus operating hours and may include daytime and weekend work depending on lesson scheduling and student demand.

There is no regular remote-work option for this position.
