Created in the Fender Custom Shop in Corona, California, this limited-edition Stratocaster combines early-’60s specifications, carefully selected materials, vintage-inspired electronics, and a convincing Heavy Relic finish that gives the instrument the feel of a guitar with decades of history behind it.
At its core is an alder Stratocaster body paired with a maple neck and rosewood fingerboard. The large “C” neck profile, 9.5" fingerboard radius, and 21 narrow-tall frets offer a familiar vintage-inspired foundation while providing a little more room and playability than a strict 7.25" vintage setup. The early-’60s aesthetic continues through the vintage-style hardware, four-bolt neck construction, clay-style dot inlays, and period-inspired details throughout.
Three Fender Custom Shop 60/63 Stratocaster pickups deliver the unmistakable character of a great early-’60s Strat: clear, dynamic and touch-sensitive, with plenty of snap and harmonic detail. The vintage-modified wiring gives the traditional SSS configuration additional tonal flexibility without losing the familiar Stratocaster voice.
The Heavy Relic treatment is a major part of this guitar's character. Rather than simply looking aged, the finish and hardware have been carefully worn to replicate the appearance and feel of a well-played vintage instrument. The result is a Stratocaster that feels broken-in from the first note while retaining the precision and consistency expected from the Fender Custom Shop.
Completed in April 2022, this example is accompanied by its original Fender Custom Shop Certificate of Authenticity, signed by Custom Shop Director Ron Thorn, as well as its original Fender case.
This is not simply a vintage-style Stratocaster. It is a limited-edition Fender Custom Shop instrument built around a specific moment in the Stratocaster's history, with the craftsmanship, appointments and attention to detail that make the Custom Shop special.
