A true piece of Gibson history, this 1952 Gibson Southern Jumbo (SJ) is a remarkable vintage acoustic that embodies the golden age of American guitar making. Handcrafted in Kalamazoo, Michigan, during one of Gibson’s most celebrated eras, this instrument delivers everything you’d expect from a 1950s Gibson, soulful tone, rich character, and timeless craftsmanship.

The Southern Jumbo was Gibson’s deluxe slope-shoulder dreadnought of the early ‘50s, offering a warm, open voice with powerful projection and beautifully aged tonewoods. This example features a mahogany body with a spruce top, producing that unmistakable Gibson thump and sweetness that records beautifully and responds effortlessly to both fingerstyle and strumming.

Decades ago, this SJ was professionally refinished, a common and respected practice of the time. The work was done to a high standard, preserving its integrity and vintage charm while giving it a clean, elegant appearance. Today, it stands as a vintage player’s dream, resonant, balanced, and full of life.

This guitar is pre-owned and in good vintage condition, showing honest playwear consistent with its age. It has been lovingly cared for and continues to deliver that unmistakable Gibson sound that only over 70 years of aging can create.
